How does your film opening represent social groups or issues?
There are just three social groups featured in our production and largely presented in stereotypical form.
All the below professional sectors that are featured are clearly defined by their use of language clearly demonstrating their education and class. All characters playing the politicians are male and wearing suits which is stereotypical of the job they carry out.
POLITICAL AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS - MEDICAL STAFF - JOURNALISTS
My Pinterest account below identifies the social groups who represent the lead actors in the film. For centuries, the suit has been a symbol of power particularly in males and continues to be the most gendered item of clothing in history which continues to represent success, control and influence. Health workers are dressed in lab coats with only one female character represented. The lab coats are gender neutral and don’t particularly emphasise success or power. The clothing clearly indicates the work carried out as opposed to their individual status within their profession. Most of my characters who play political figures are supposed to be middle aged, stereotypically privately educated with a degree from a high tier university. The location of their work place also reinforces their status. The press conference takes place at the foot of a very grand building which strengthens their position of power. The faceless journalists are represented in a vocally frenzied dramatic way pleading for answers to their questions from the ministers who are clearly in charge of what the press reports.
